"This dataset is massive in terms of both size and impact. It provides an unprecedented look into the Department of Homeland Security's organizational structure, highlighting which people do what work across multiple DHS agencies, including ICE," said journalist and cyber security researcher maia arson crimew.
Massive database and deep body of information to pick through about one of our current fascist agencies in the USA.
Behind the high school students spearheading the movement, the larger battalions are beginning to grow restless. The fatal error of Macronism: because it corrupts everything, everything can work towards its overthrow.
I want to agree with this. I want to believe that this may Be something.
Without the seemingly irrational "smashing and looting riots" triggered by hunger among tens of thousands of ordinary people tearing open the breach ahead, the bourgeois representatives in parliament wouldn't even have been able to pass a single piece of paper. This chaotic, spontaneous riot forced the entire French society onto the irreversible path of the Great Revolution.
I have been observing the chaos in France from my American standpoint with some cautious optimism. I appreciated this piece putting it in a historical context.
I think the version that is out there of her is largely a version that people are putting together from the pieces they have. The first time I met her, I was like, “This is not how I thought she would be.”
I recently watched the superb YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING (2026) (letterboxd review here) and this is a wonderful companion piece. It's been said before and will be said again but there is really no one out here doing it like Nathan Fielder. A singular entity in the entertainment space. I think the only thing that approaches his body of work is like, Tim Heidecker/Gregg Turkington's On Cinema escapades.
Park Jee-hoon highlights various issues that caused and escalated the Ukraine crisis, including NATO expansion, neo-Nazism, and mistreatment of Russians and Russian speakers living in Ukraine.
A very exhaustive detailing of the current situation in Ukraine and how it relates to the material concerns both of Russia and Ukraine. It's a thorny subject in the broader West to talk about Ukraine without being completely engulfed in pro-Ukraine angled propaganda, so I found this a breath of fresh air.
I found myself in a conversation with a friend recently about the nature of Russian far-right agitation and how that relates to the broader Rightist upturn globally these days, and it is complex how the anticommunism of the United States (and the post-Soviet Russian state) has contributed to the building-up of right-wing forces within modern Russia. But that doesn't change the material realities at play here -- NATO/the EU threatens Russia militarily on the regular, and Ukraine's swing toward those powers (as part of a broader right-wing upswell in the region) makes it a very fragile situation for Russia's survival as a state.
If a person commits serious harm at twenty, accepts responsibility for it, experiences consequences, spends ten years attempting to become someone who will never inflict that harm again, and reaches thirty only to discover that nothing done during those intervening years possesses any moral weight whatsoever, then “rehabilitation” has become a word describing a process whose successful completion we have defined as ontologically impossible – asymptotic, even.
As far as I'm concerned this is the definitive writing on The Jacob Geller situation and also as close as you're gonna get to a stance on it from me. I am very frustrated and disappointed both by the actions and history revealed (obviously) but also by the unbelievably cruel and simplistic response on the social media spheres about this. A simple-minded focus on punishment with no clear end other than punishment.
Sexual assault deserves moral condemnation, full stop. It does not follow that every behavior performed under the banner of condemning sexual assault is therefore morally admirable.
This link is to a TIME article, which is fine. The actual letter from the Iranian government can be read here, and I recommend doing so.
As the first casualty of the endless wars waged by the U.S. government has without exception been the truth, with the American people perpetually receiving the greatest harm as the result of the U.S. government’s campaign of deception, we wish to highlight some of the facts that are being withheld from the American public. After all, it is the American taxpayers who will have to bear the cost of America’s unjust wars, and so they deserve to know the truth.
The amount of patience that the government of Iran has had with the United States active imperialist belligerence is honestly saintly.
If you haven't looked at the Napster website lately, get ready for some major AI-related indigestion. The former music-sharing rebel is now peddling AI digital twins of teachers and serving the Saudi market.
Very... odd? Very odd. I mean, anything Saudi related these days is sort of strange but this is a particularly weird product fit.
We were invested in liberation. So, without an understanding of what we were trying to liberate for ourselves, we were finding sympathetic and empathetic connections to other modes of liberation — specifically Black and brown liberation. There’s a reason why Zion is mostly Black and brown folks. We were inherently predisposed to seeing our own liberation connected to these other modes of liberation.
Really fascinating interview with Lilly Wachowski about movies, music, the Matrix, transness, and liberation.
Here I will detail a perspective on how to understand the Cuban reforms from a Marxist point of view and, by comparing them with other socialist experiences of reform, try to elucidate how we can think about this kind of policy change under Communist-led governments.
It is impossible to consider Cuba, and Cuba's oppression by the American state, without getting into complex, contradictory feelings. Even before the current reforms, Cuba was contentious -- not initially a communist revolution, wrenched into communism by circumstance, and then under siege for the entirety of its existence by one of the most powerful capitalist empires on the planet. It is a model of resilience and survival, and of compromise. This last bit, I think, is well-defended in this piece.
And what have been Cuba’s playing cards in the 21st century? Arguably, the worst ones out of any Communist-led state. Any complete analysis of the Cuban Revolution in general, but especially in the 21stcentury, should always start from the decades-long, bipartisan effort by the United States to subjugate Cuba once again. Until the late 1980s, Cuba had the help of the Socialist Bloc and could benefit from the echoes of early Soviet hopes of developed socialist countries reversing unequal exchange and breaking the chains of underdevelopment in other regions. The impact that the 1989-1991 collapse of socialism in Eastern Europe had on Cuba is impossible to overstate; it is tempting to see it as isolated as the early Soviet Union, but with the crucial difference that one was a transcontinental mammoth and the other an island of a similar size to Iceland, 90 miles away from a state committed to defeat it.
A small note in this piece that I think about often is that -- as the author correctly details -- Cuba was almost entirely a monocrop economy until the 90s. Much of its money to survive was provided by the Soviet Union, who, beautifully and tragically, paid exorbitant and unnecessary prices for Cuban sugar until its collapse. An internationalism that feels almost unbelievable now. Even great China makes sure to not disturb the monster of the United States overmuch, and one can hardly blame them for it. But still.
But an L.A. Material review has found that is far from the full story. Organizers failed to lay basic groundwork for the festival, such as obtaining police permits for myriad events. Not a single speaker or panel was formally booked for the “State of Jazz” conference and the overall process was marred by confusion.

The international left’s angst and disappointment regarding Venezuela’s retreats is understandable. But the Global South is not about to fulfill the revolutionary aspirations of those living in the belly of the beast. That, it should be clear, is the task for people in the imperial core.
Even simple equipment failed with slapstick regularity, six workers said. Conveyor belts broke down. Automated carts got lost. Safety gates meant to shut down machines when workers approached did not shut down machines when workers approached. A pipe exploded, spraying water up to the ceiling.
Hilarious article about the USA's super efficient military capitalism. Paper tiger!
After crossing the 100-gigawatt mark in 2012, it took the world 10 years to deploy 1 terawatt of solar power. An additional 1 terawatt, enough to meet all of US power demand at its peak, took less than three years to build. Not even two years later in 2026 — the precise timing is subject to debate among analysts — the 3-terawatt threshold was reached.
Some good news. And, naturally:
The first terawatt was mostly rich countries subsidizing the installation of solar, with China and poor countries still finding photovoltaics too expensive. That story changed going into the second and third terawatt, with China taking the baton from rich countries.
The current government of the United States is not going to get us out of climate change. The vanguard of modern communism, however, has a pretty good shot.

Terry Thompson lost $1.5 million on bets he placed with FanDuel. The company gave him VIP treatment — including a personalized video message from the Phillies' All-Star first baseman.
Genuinely stomach turning. Sports betting needs to be banned and these people deserve so much worse than what I want to say publicly online.
A new book claims that Mystery, who teaches awkward men how to hit on women, had sex and smoked weed with an AI chatbot named Miss Shira Always.

Everything around you is ads and it's only getting worse. I have lost so much patience for advertisements lol
Climate action is increasing its reliance on completely avoidable new fossil fuel infrastructure, and what it gets in return is more lies, less trust and direct participation in big tech’s attempt to destroy access to reality.
Turns out that recent "Bezos quote" about humans drinking too much water was entirely made up, likely an AI hallucination, and reported by an Indian news outlet as fact. Never underestimate the lack of care of the modern overworked/underpaid journalist.
